Disney agreed to buy Playdom, a company that makes social games for Facebook. The deal was made successful after Disney paid up to US$763.2m for Playdom. This is seen as a move that sets the stage for Disney characters to feature in games on the world’s largest social networking site.

In addition to the twitter and youtube accounts, the British Royal Family has extended its online presence through the Flickr community. According to the Yahoo News, the site will stream the latest images of royal engagements as well as contain historic photos from the archives.

According to a recent Nielsen report, the world now spends over 110 billion minutes on social networks and blog sites which equates to 22 percent of all time online. For the first time, social network or blog sites are visited by three quarters of global consumers who go online. Its also said that the average visitor spends way more time more time (66% more) on these sites than a year ago.

Global E-mail Attitudes Survey finds that out of 13,000 consumers in 13 countries across the Americas, Europe and Asia Pacific, 58% have been driven to make a purchase in a store or over the phone by a marketing email. The study also finds out that many people are willing to subscribe to email messages offline, for example when placing a catalog order (46%), at the point-of-sale (29%), or via SMS text message (13%).
Like many other speculations in the market, the research also shed light on the kinds of influences over consumers’ purchase decisions. Two-thirds of consumers being interviewed indicated that e-mail inspired purchases have prompted them to further research a brand and its products while more than half say it is spurred by peer recommendation. Interestingly enough, roughly half of consumers revealed that they are willing to act as brand advocates in order to connect email content, such as special offers and promotions, to social networks. Asia Pacific with a number exceeds the global norm also ranks the top in this kind of activity.

Over the years marketers seem to understand that mommies are crucial in many purchase decisions. As everyone knows that gone are the days when product reviews only come from one’s own social circle, Coke decided to turn mommy bloggers in Korea into coke evangelists just to get more families to talk about the brand.
In Seoul, young mothers bloggers are introduced to the company and explored ways Coke can better communicate with them. They will be given company information depending on their own interests and chances to attend marketing and corporate events. Its Coke’s expectation that by doing all of these, young mothers would be able to ’share unique and exciting Coke experiences’ with Korean netizens.
