NYU Students To Build Facebook Alternative with Raised Fund of $100, 000 0

May14

Four New York University students raised more than $100, 0000 to fulfil their vision of building a facebook alternative Diaspora. In view of the recent privacy concerns on different social media platforms, Team Diaspora named Daniel Grippi, Maxwell Salzberg, Ilya Zhitomirskiy and Raphael Sofaer set out to build a network that allows people to install their own seed – a personal web server with their photos, videos and everything else. The server would be fully owned and controlled by the user, so the user could share anything and still maintain ownership over it.

Ideal as it sounds like, on the other side of the battle there comes 2300 current Facebook fans who have agreed to back the company with as little as five bucks.

In a few months time, we should see if the formula of $100, 000 plus four NYU students with a powerful vision would produce another mind-blowing social media wave. Many of us are surely looking forward to them bringing us surprises.
